I am a senior assistant professor of social and cultural psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. My work focuses on the intersection of culture and emotion, exploring how the relational dynamics of emotion play out in different (inter)cultural contexts. In my current research, I study how intercultural couples navigate differences in their emotional repertoires and how psychotherapists can constructively work with emotion in intercultural settings.
I am passionate about applying the insights from cultural psychology to higher education. Since 2019, I have been developing and delivering a series of workshops on teaching culturally diverse classrooms. As the TLC (Teaching and Learning Center) teaching coach for psychology and a member of the Special Interest Group “International Classrooms”, I continue to support teachers in making the most of the opportunities that diverse classrooms offer. Finally, I have been a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee in our Faculty and served as its co-chair from 2024-2025.
